Biography
After completing a two-year course at the Kazakhfilm studio, Dimash Akhimov began acting in films in 1968. In 1970, he entered the acting department at the All-Union State Institute of Cinematography (Moscow) in the class of Boris Babochkin and graduated successfully in 1974. His diploma work included the lead role in William Shakespeare's play Othello, as well as the role of the mayor in Nikolai Gogol's The Government Inspector. In 1987, he entered the directing faculty at the T. K. Zhurgenov Kazakh National Academy of Arts, completing it in 1990. Over his 48-year acting career, he starred in more than 100 films and TV series across 13 studios in countries of the former USSR, as well as abroad, including Czechoslovakia, Poland, Germany, Italy, Switzerland, France, Japan, India, Iran, and others. He currently resides in Almaty, Kazakhstan. His work in the film industry was recognized with the title "Honored Artist of the Kazakh SSR" in 1990, and in 2008, he was awarded the "Order of Kurmet." In 2014, overcoming the language barrier, he played the role of a guide in the TV series Marco Polo, produced by The Weinstein Company. A year later, Dimash portrayed the criminal authority Buzaubas in Nurtas Adambayev's film Escape from the Village. Operation Mahabbat. In 2016, he played the role of the ruler of Moghulistan, Esen-Buga, in the film Kazakh Khanate.
