Adelaide Crows First Blood

It was never easy and it was always controversial, but in the end the birth of the Adelaide Crows - the AFL's 15th team - was one of the most exciting initiatives undertaken. With Queensland, New South Wales and Western Australia already joining Victoria in the national competition, the last hitch was coming to terms with the proud South Australians - a state divided on the debate about whether or not it should enter the expanding AFL. The issue was one of the hottest topics in football, but now, with Adelaide crowing in joyful chorus after its initial success, the genesis of the Crows is complete and a magnificent chapter in football history has begun.
