Within autobiographical cinema, the boundaries of experimentation regarding the use of the “I” and the act of representation have been explored in various ways. “Conversations with Dad” (“Conversaciones con papá”) introduces us to the doubts and ruminations of a young student who, upon becoming a father himself, seeks out an absent father—a mirror to emulate. This journey of reconciliation and reconnection serves only to further interrogate the limits of the documentary form and the role it can play as a catalyst.
