I Shall Moulder Before I Shall Be Taken

Filmed amongst the Djuka tribes of Suriname, this is one of the first films to investigate the connection between black Americans today and their pre-slavery ancestors. Dr. Allen Counter and David L. Evans, two black educators, traveled to the Amazon bush country of South America to capture this story of the proud heritage of the descendants of African rebel slaves now living in Suriname. This documentary was filmed in Suriname just a few years after the country gained independence from The Netherlands.
