Unica Zürn

In this collaged, experimental video I am sort of casting myself across time as a figment from Zúrn’s complicated (and also guilty, post-Nazi) imagination, a fellow patient institutionalized alongside her in the fictional, fantastical machinery of cinema and its identifications. Famously married to fellow late Surrealist Hans Bellmer, Zürn also had a friend in the mescaline experimenter Henri Michaux, around whom she built a particular mythology in spite of his glaring general dismissals of women. Who hasn’t been there, ill or sane?
